I don't...actually, I just now realized that these devices help to spread the disease that caught the music industry.

I actually just have the full cast of Les Miserables to follow me around and sing on command.

But then I listen mostly to instrumental music instead of Hip-Hop and that stuff.
You are partially right here. About 8 or 9 years ago I was invited to be in a panel with sound engineers and musicians to find out about "that new phenomena called mp3". True A/B comparising. 10sec. 16bit original / 5sec.
silence / 10sec. mp3. (256Kb/s)
About 5% () could really hear differences! Counting that you already have
a 50% hit, that was surprisingly low.

It depends on the way how you encode. VBR gives you the best results.

mp3 gets a bad name because people get "their" music from peer to peer
networks for example. Nobody knows the history of how that was made.
mp3 to audio CD and back to mp3?? You know what I mean...

Right encoding is the keyword here. Same with DVD's You can do it yourself
with some poormans SW package or let a professional do it. You will be surprised.

Besides of all this, lets face it; I like to have more than 500 CD's with me all
the time without swapping them like crazy and damage and or losing them.

Classical music is a bit tricky (wide dynamics, complicated freq. spectrum, harmonics etc.), but for normal pop, rock, whatever music, it really doesn't matter. (If you do it right)

Nope - I didn't even get a cell phone until Dec. 06............. So i'm completely out of the loop here!

On a related note - I still have an unopened ZZ Top "Tres Hombres" album from the early 70's............. That puppy isn't going ANYWHERE!
