Default Does anybody have a "Free" image of Alizée?

Alizée's article on Wikipedia is quite good, but there's a big problem. Wikipedia tries to only use Free images - that is, images that have a license for anybody to be able to use them without permission. All the official images are no-goes, as we don't really have permission from Universal to use them (really, what we're doing is copyright infringement).

However, if anybody snapped a good picture while they were at one of her performances, concerts, or just happened to see her while holding a camera, it would be a great help. Do any of you own an image of Alizée that you'd be willing to donate to the pursuit of Alizée knowledge?

In the U.S., use of the pictures can often be defended under our Fair Use Doctrine. Although this is unique to the U.S., I'm sure the French copyright holders are not going to exercise their rights if you use the images for reasonable non-commercial purposes (e.g., avatars, signatures, etc.)

Don't dismiss that personal picitures snapped at concerts are not covered under copyright or other legal protections of the concert or performance promoter. Admission to the venue often carries acceptance of terms granting the promoter rights to images (even those taken with a personal camera).

Even non-copyrighted images can't be used for commercial purposes, since the name itself is held.

Just use what you can find for wholesome non commercial purposes. If a copyright holder has a beef with what you're doing, the first legal step is to send a "cease and desist" letter requesting you comply. In which case you stop using the pics in accordance with the request.

IANAL.

We'd have to find out if Universal took the rights to images taken in performances, and even if they did, whether or not that takes away our rights to them. Wikipedia is entirely non-profit, so there's no problem of things being used commercially. Though fair-use could be used, Wikipedia prefers not to use fair use images to make it easier for others to make use of the content that they have.
