yeah it was the video version. Still i don't like the idea of someone other than Lili singing her signature song.

Here, finally, is the discussion of the attempt Julien made to alter the lyrics. Anyone who wants to translate is welcome to do so.

Mylène Farmer a refusé.

I wished to slip in "aphorisme dadaïste" [Dadaistic aphorism] beside "bar blues" in lieu of "bas bleus" and "donner ma langue aux chattes" in place of "chat". She found these to be vulgar considering that it was sung as if by a fourteen year old girl in a miniskirt. She's right, vulgarity does ensue . . .

Wait she thought this would be vulgar, I am confused didn't she already slip hidden meanings into the songs?

The key word there, I believe, is "hidden." Yes, there's a lesbian connotation to "donner ma langue aux chat," but the French slang for a vagina is "chatte" not "chat," (if I'm not mistaken) so replacing the word would have made it too up-front and obvious. One of the dividers between sexy and crude is subtlety.

Oh, I understand now, thanks Deep. Mylène was clever, using mere innuendos, whereas Julien wanted to be upfront, and overly crude about it.

Right after that, the article says "...balance-t-il ironiquement."

I get the feeling he was kind of rolling his eyes sarcastically, like "Gee, she decided these lyrics would be, like, too vulgar...remember when they were being sung by a 14-year-old girl in a miniskirt? Gee, hmm, I guess the meaning of 'vulgar' has changed over the years..."

BTW what is the pronunciation difference between "chattes" and "chat"? One slightly audible "t"?

Well, on this one I agree with Mylène and disagree with Julien. (Admittedly I'm biased because I don't much like Julien's version of ML to begin with.) I did see the bit about irony, but disagree with that as well. I just don't consider Mylène to be vulgar. She's very sexual at times, and also very dark, dealing with sex, death, and despair, but not crude. Usually.
